I have two classes with Mr. Holt this year so I had to help make two videos. In 6th hour, we had a group of three Natalie Herman, Eric Shapland, and me. Our first idea for a news story was over a student that was given a felony for pointing a finger gun in school. A week before the video was due we knew we were not going to finish since we could not get any interviews set up for this subject and decided to switch our idea. Our new idea was reading scores dropping in the United States. Which was an easier subject to do since we could do the interviews and get b-roll at school. Mrs. Geist was currently in the studio given an interview for another group when we were writing the questions so we decide to interview her first. After that, we scheduled an interview day with Mrs..Wasinger and Mr. McCormick. All three of them gave us good information to use in our news story. All of our b-roll was gathered here in the school and we used ourselves as actors. I think the video turned out excellent for working on it only for one week. This was a good experience since none of us had created a news story before.

For the 2nd nine weeks, our 4th hour class worked together on a news story. Our topic was animal abuse focusing on dogs the most. First couple of weeks we wrote our questions and brainstormed who would be the best people to interview form our community we had five total interviews. The people we chose to interview were Robin Buehler, Suzy Patty. Michelle Nix, Jason Wolfe, and Kevin Wells. Each of them gave us a great interview but just did not have enough space to use them all. We gathered b-roll after our first interview at Miller veterinary clinic. This b-roll consisted of dogs in the shelter and others playing around. Most of our b-roll that was actually used in the video was pictures found online. Josh did most of the editing while the rest of us gathered pictures. It took a couple of days to choose which pictures we wanted to actually use. After we got our intro picked out and put the pictures in to fill in the blank spots we then worked on the voice-over. I volunteered as tribute to say the voice-over since no else wanted too. It went pretty well even though I had to say each line about three times to finally get a good one. After that, we just pieced everything together and had our project finished.

This year I started the year off with a Public Service Announcement. The first couple of days I brainstormed on the idea and gathered information on why Juling is bad for your health. After gathering everything I needed I made a script so I knew what shots and angles I had to film. Then I recruited a star actor by the name Joshua Jacobson to help me film it. Some spots were we filmed in the halls and others in the restroom. The restroom was used since it is a very hot spot for teens Juling. The hardest part of the filming was getting a realistic fall from the person Juling. If I remember correctly, it took us about five tries to finally get a good shot. Then it took me couple of days to edit the shots and add music and the information I found on it to the video. I was planning to add an after effect named disintegration effect to the final part of the video but after several tries, I could not get the effect to work properly. I added a black and white filter to the final render to make a more cinematic video which made the music go with way better. This was my first ever project since last year I was focused on doing highlights for the Beaver Broadcasting Class. Hope you like this video it was a great learning experience.
